Get to know Peter Burckhardt
Peter Burckhardt is a partner in our Dispute Resolution Group in Zurich, where he heads our Compliance and White-Collar Crime team.
He is regularly retained as counsel in complex commercial disputes before arbitral tribunals and state courts, and also sits as an arbitrator. In addition, Peter Burckhardt frequently acts as defense counsel for high-profile individuals or corporate clients in regulatory and business crime investigations both on a cantonal and federal level. He assists clients in international legal or administrative assistance cases as well as victims of crime in tracing and freezing exercises. He also advises on compliance programs.
After graduating from Bern University in 1995, Peter Burckhardt gained admission to the bar in Switzerland that same year. He received an LL.M. degree from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1999, the year he joined us. Prior to doing so he served in various functions in the judiciary of the Canton of Bern, notably as criminal investigating judge, deputy judge in civil and criminal matters, and head of the bankruptcy office of the XII. District (1996–1998).
Peter Burckhardt is a member of various professional associations, including the Zurich and Swiss Bar Associations, IBA, ASA and ECBA. He has written several publications in his fields of specialization.
