Get to know Giovanna Montanaro
Giovanna Montanaro is a counsel in our Trade and Transport Group in Zurich. Her main areas of practice include transportation and trade law, contract and insurance law, domestic and international commercial litigation, and arbitration. She regularly assists clients in resolving multi-jurisdictional disputes, handles and coordinates cargo damage cases, including those related to fraud, and advises on contract drafting in respect to international trade and insurance.
Giovanna Montanaro was admitted to the Swiss bar in 1996 and joined us in 2000. She graduated from the University of Zurich with a Doctor of Law degree (first degree 1994; doctorate 2001) and worked at the university as a research and teaching assistant and at the European Commission as an assistant. She has authored several publications on transportation law and taught law at the Postgraduate Program for International Logistic Management since 2001. Until 2007 she served on the extra-parliamentary Swiss Commission of Maritime Navigation.
She remains a member of several professional associations, among them the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA), where she was president of the Transport Law Commission; the Swiss Association for Aviation and Space Law; the Swiss Law Association; the European Air Law Asso ciation; the International Aviation Women’s Association; and the German Association for Transportation Law. Moreover, she serves on the Com mission “Law & Insurance” of the Swiss Freight Forwarding and Logistics Association.
