Martin Weber is a partner in Schellenberg Wittmer's Mergers & Acquisitions Group in Zurich. His main areas of practice are private and public mergers and acquisitions, private equity, capital markets and stock exchange law, corporate and commercial law, corporate restructurings, and international business transactions. He has extensive experience in advising publicly listed and closely held companies, including multinational groups of companies, in all types of cross-border mergers and acquisitions, public takeovers and going privates, initial public offerings, rights offerings, and private equity transactions.He regularly assists clients in a variety of other international business transactions, such as corporate restructurings, joint ventures and business outsourcings. In addition, he serves as a board member on several Swiss companies of various sizes.

Martin Weber is consistently recommended in directories as a leading corporate / M&A practitioner. According to Chambers, he is praised for his «amazing analytical and negotiation skills» as well as his «capability to understand the needs of his clients». Following his legal studies at the University of Zurich, Martin Weber was admitted to the bar in Switzerland in 1986. He earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Chicago Law School in 1988, the same year he joined Schellenberg Wittmer. In 1993 he graduated as a Doctor of Law from the University of Zurich and became a partner here.

Selected deals and cases

  • Lead transaction counsel in the merger of TWINT (Postfinance) and Paymit (SIX), creating the leading Swiss mobile payment solution in a joint venture together with Credit Suisse, UBS, Raiffeisen, Zürcher Kantonalbank and Banque Cantonale Vaudoise
  • Lead transaction counsel (together with Oliver Triebold) to EFG International AG to acquire the Swiss bank BSI SA from Banco BTG Pactual S.A.
