Louis Burrus is a Partner in our Dispute Resolution Group in Geneva. He is dual-qualified in Switzerland and in England & Wales (Solicitor).

Louis specializes in domestic and international commercial litigation, in particular in banking and financial disputes. He often advises clients in cross-border multi-jurisdictional disputes. He also has extensive experience in conducting corporate internal investigations, including white-collar matters. He regularly represents companies and individuals before Swiss and foreign authorities.

Between 2014 and 2015, Louis worked in the global White Collar Crime and Corporate Investigations practice of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP in London.

According to quotes from Who's Who Legal, Louis Burrus is «well versed in handling cross-border and internal business investigations,» and «wins praise as a very knowledgeable and practical lawyer.» He is also ranked as "Rising Star" in the Litigation category by Legal Media Group's Expert Guides (2016).

Louis Burrus graduated in 2007 from the University of Fribourg School of Law, after having taken part of his Masters degree at the Humboldt University in Berlin. The same year, he also earned a Certificate in «International Business Transactions with Chinese Characteristics» from the Cornell-Bucerius Summer Law Institute in Suzhou, China.

Louis Burrus is a member of the board of the Swiss LegalTech Association. In 2012-2014, he also served as a board member of the Geneva Young Bar Association. He is a member of several professional associations such as the Geneva Bar Association, the Swiss Bar Association and the American Bar Association (associate member, Section of International Law).

Selected deals and cases

  • Acted for a European energy company in enforcing a several hundred million arbitration award (ICC, seat in NYC), including by way of an attachment order (worldwide enforcement case)
  • Advising a major Swiss bank participating into the United States Department of Justice’s (DoJ) Program for Non-Prosecution Agreements or Non-Target Letters for Swiss bank (co-Project Manager Role)
  • Lead counsel to a European company in a post-transaction dispute related to the sale of a telecommunication company
