Get to know Pietro Sansonetti
Pietro Sansonetti is a partner in our Geneva office, where he heads our Taxation Group. He advises clients on all tax matters, both domestic and international. He has extensive knowledge of complex tax situations, and extensive experience in dealing with tax authorities and enforcement matters. He is active in corporate matters, in particular reorganizations such as mergers and real estate transactions. He also works with individuals on family businesses, on partnership and private clients-related tax matters such as trusts and inheritance related issue as well as on tax litigation including investigations and enforcement procedures.
Upon graduating from the School of Law of the University of Geneva in 1982, Pietro Sansonetti was admitted to the Geneva bar in 1985 and joined Fides, a large Swiss tax and audit firm (now KPMG). In 1988 he moved to Arthur Andersen, where he served as a tax manager. He became a Swiss-certified tax expert (expert fiscal diplômé) in 1990 and in 1993 was appointed director of tax affairs (chief tax officer) at the Geneva Tax Authority. He joined our firm as a partner in 1999.
Pietro Sansonetti is actively involved in the tax community (Swiss Fiduciary Chamber, International Fiscal Association in particular), where he is a member of various boards and committees. He lectures regularly at international and Swiss seminars. He also lectured on criminal tax law at the Swiss Tax Academy and was the chairman of the Swiss examination commission for tax consultants between 1999 and 2004.
