Lorenzo Olgiati heads Schellenberg Wittmer’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group in Zurich. His practice focuses on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, public takeovers, securities and stock exchange regulation, private equity transactions and other significant corporate and commercial matters, such as international joint ventures and corporate restructurings. He also regularly counsels private and listed companies and their boards or significant shareholders on corporate governance matters. Among his clients are Swiss and international private and listed companies incl. multinational groups of companies, institutional investors, entrepreneurs as well as Swiss public authorities.

Lorenzo Olgiati is consistently ranked as a leading corporate / M&A practitioner by Chambers Global where he is praised by market commentators for "his creative and results-oriented approach" and described as "very fast, responsive and precise". He is also recognized as a leading lawyer by IFLR 1000 (M&A) and Who's Who Legal (M&A/Capital Markets) where he is rated "excellent" and lauded for his "fabulous expertise" and "enviable client list".

Lorenzo Olgiati is a frequent author and speaker on legal developments affecting M&A and corporate law and a co-editor of takeoverpractice.ch, Schellenberg Wittmer's innovative website on Swiss Takeover Law. He is a lecturer in the University of Zurich's LL.M. program on International Banking and Finance Law. He also currently serves as an officer of the International Bar Association’s Corporate and M&A Law Committee.

A graduate of the University of Zurich in 1989, he served as a research and teaching assistant to Prof Peter Forstmoser, chair of Corporate, Capital Markets and Commercial Law, and received his doctorate summa cum laude in 1995. In 1997, he earned a Master of Laws with distinction from Georgetown University, Washington D.C, and then worked as a foreign associate with an international law firm in New York. He joined Schellenberg Wittmer in 1998 and became a partner in 2003.

  • Counsel to Canton Graubünden and Axpo Group in their acquisition of a 24.6% stake in SIX-listed energy company Repower from Alpiq, incl. representation before Swiss Takeover Board
  • Swiss Counsel to The Carlyle Group in its acquisition of a 50% stake in Swiss-based midstream energy company Varo Energy Group
  • Swiss Counsel to SIX-listed ams AG in its USD 320m acquisition of Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions, Inc. (TAOS)
