Get to know Madeleine Simonek
Madeleine Simonek is a professor of law and holds the Chair for Swiss and International Tax Law at the University of Zurich. She is Of Counsel in Schellenberg Wittmer's Taxation Group in Zurich. She has extensive experience in all aspects of tax law, particularly corporate and international tax law. Her special fields are tax controversies and litigation in domestic and international matters, tax legal opinions and international tax planning.
Madeleine Simonek has written several tax books and publications, mainly in the field of corporate taxation and international tax law. She is a board member of the Swiss branch of the International Fiscal Association and a member of the Federal Commission on Tax Harmonization within Switzerland. Finally, she is the Academic Head of the Postgraduate Program on International Tax Law at the University of Zurich. She regularly serves as a speaker at national and international congresses, and is a member of the Permanent Scientific Committee of the International Fiscal Association and of the Academic Committee of the European Association of Tax Law Professors.
Admitted to the Swiss bar in 1989, she graduated as a Doctor of Law from the University of Bern Faculty of Law in 1994. In 2004 she became a professor of tax law at the University of Lucerne and in 2009 was appointed as a professor of Swiss and International Tax Law at the University of Zurich. She is also a Swiss Certified Tax Expert. Madeleine Simonek was formerly a tax partner with a major law firm in Zurich prior to joining Schellenberg Wittmer in 2004.
