Get to know Philippe Bärtsch
Philippe Bartsch is a partner in our International Arbitration Group in Geneva. He has acted as counsel before arbitral tribunals in complex commercial disputes involving a broad range of matters, including international construction contracts, joint venture agreements, sales and distribution contracts, license agreements, share purchase agreements, post-acquisition disputes, and collateral management agreements. In addition, he has acted as arbitrator under a variety of arbitration rules. He has represented parties before Swiss courts in arbitration-related court proceedings, such as judicial appointments of arbitrators or challenges of arbitral awards before the Swiss Supreme Court.
Philippe Bartsch graduated from the University of Geneva Law School in 2000, receiving the Huet du Pavillon Award for the best law degree, and two years later was admitted to the Swiss bar. In 2004 he earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School. He joined us as an associate in 2003 and, in 2006-2007, worked as a foreign associate in the arbitration group of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York. He has been elected to the partnership of our firm as of January 2012.
Philippe Bartsch is a member of several professional associations, including the Geneva Bar Association, the Swiss Arbitration Association, LCIA, and the Harvard Club of Switzerland. He is a co-chair of Young Arbitration Practitioners (YAP), a member of the editorial board of the IBA Arbitration Newsletter, and an active member of the ASA Marketing Committee. He has authored various publications on international arbitration issues and regularly speaks at arbitration conferences.
