We have extensive experience representing clients in arbitral proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and other arbitral institutions, as well as in proceedings before the bodies of numerous sports federations, including the IOC, FIFA, FIS, IAAF, IBSF, IBU, ISU, IIHF, etc. These disputes concern doping matters, unfair competition and dismissal claims, violation of the WADA code, transfer rights, media rights, sponsorship agreements, corruption, employment, bans and suspensions, breaches of contract, and other commercial matters, including the hosting of major sports events. We also regularly assist clients in obtaining urgent interim relief.

Our team further advises sports federations, sports officials, athletes and states on non-contentious sports matters, including sponsoring and marketing agreements, broadcasting rights, major events, infrastructure, etc.

Our experience includes:

  • Successful representation of multiple Russian athletes before the CAS who were investigated amidst allegations of a systematic doping scheme around the Winter Olympic Games. This is the most high profile case in sports in recent history. 28 of the 39 athletes represented were cleared of any wrongdoing with the CAS decisions reducing the bans for the other 11 athletes;
  • Successful defence, alongside a major US-based law firm, of the Vice President of the Qatar Football Association - in a high-profile sports-related dispute regarding his wrongful suspension by the FIFA Ethics Committee on the premises of alleged FIFA Ethics code violations;
  • Counsel to four prominent Russian athletes and members of the Russian National Ski Team in four separate disputes before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the athletes' provisional suspension from all competitions amid the allegation contained in the McLaren report on alleged institutionalized doping manipulations around the Sochi Games;
  • Representation of a state-owned entity in a very high-stake commercial dispute governed by Swiss law over one of the largest sports events in the world;
  • Successful representation of an Asian athlete in a dispute with a sports federation over an imminent ban leading up to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The athlete was ultimately permitted to participate in the Games and went on to become an Olympic Champion.
